Obituary

Barbara B. Levy, born April 2, 1934, passed away on May 17, 2026. Barabara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, an active participant in her community and at Ohev Shalom to which she belonged her entire adult life. Barbara was also an active contributor to many charities, a supporter of many Jewish causes, as well as the civil rights of all, and an accomplished educator of young children. Barbara is survived by her daughters Gayle Levy and Adina Levy, grandchildren Lara (Cory) Smith, Jason Liebmann and Amanda Liebmann and great grandchildren Avery Smith and Leah Smith. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur Levy and her son Leonard Levy.

Barbara was raised in Lower Merion, by her parents Maurice Binder, an entrepreneur and owner of Binder Cooperage Co., manufacturer of wooden and metal barrels, and Goldye Korotkin Binder, a homemaker and avid needle pointer and painter. Barbara was raised with her sister Ronnie (Binder) Smull and brother Alvin Binder. Barbara matriculated to the University of Pennsylvania where she met her husband Arthur Levy whom she married in December of 1955. While Arthur served in the army stationed in SC from 1955-1957, Barbara taught elementary school in Cayce SC. After time in the army, Arthur and Barabara moved back to Chester, PA and then Wallingford, PA to start a family. Several years after having her children, Barbara continued teaching, with her longest tenure being in the William Penn School District. Barbara loved traveling, playing bridge, and taking her grandchildren to the theatre.

Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services on May 19, 2026, at 11:00 am at Ohev Shalom Synagogue, 2 Chester Pike, Wallingford, PA. Interment to follow at Ohev Shalom Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at 5 pm on May 19 at the home of Gayle Levy. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund.
