BARBARA GARBER

GARBER
BARBARA (nee Kranich)
Age 87. Wife of the late Robert D. Garber of King of Prussia, PA and Delray Beach FL, died suddenly Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Delray Medical Center surrounded by her three loving daughters. Born in Lancaster PA, she was the daughter of the late Philip Kranich and Rose Judge (Mittell).
Barbara grew up in Worcester MA, and at the age of 17 attended the University of Massachusetts graduating with honors. Barbara met Bob on a blind date on Valentine's Day in 1948. They were married in 1951 until his death in 2015. They had three daughters and Barbara stayed home, taking care of her family for many years. She supported Bob in his career, which resulted in several moves and job changes, taking the family from Connecticut to Philadelphia to Chicago and back to Philadelphia.
As the girls grew older, Barbara returned to work and was a pioneer for women in the early computer era, where she began as Programmer and advanced to a Systems Analyst. As a recent cancer survivor, Barbara loved to exercise, play bridge, knit, and was starting a new hobby, learning to play canasta with her friends in Florida. She and Bob traveled the world together, but their favorite place to visit was Israel.
Barbara's pride and joy was her family, and she is survived by her 3 daughters, Carol Steiner (Dr. Rob), Cindy Garber (Robert Lopez-Cepero), and Nancy Braitman (Arthur); 6 grandchildren, Katie Steiner Rotenberg (Dr. Shaun), Jeffrey Steiner, Allison Rosen (Jeremy), Dr. Melissa Cradic (Dr. Rob Homsher), Gregory Braitman, Rachel Braitman; 3 great-grand-children, Alexis and Aron Rotenberg and Zachary Rosen; sister-in-law, Irene Bernstein, and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018, at 1 P.M., Congregation B'nai Jacob in Phoenixville PA, followed by burial at Congregation B'nai Jacob Cemetery. Shiva will be observed at Barbara's home on Sunday at 7 P.M., on Monday and Tuesday at the Garber-Lopez home in Elkins Park. Contributions in her memory may be made to B'nai Jacob Capital Fund or Autism Society of Greater Philadelphia.
