Avi Newman (Eric Sandquist)

Avi Newman, legal name Eric Sandquist, died the evening of March 4, 2023. He was 80 years old.

Avi graduated Harvard University and continued his education in medical school. He completed the academic curriculum, but did not pursue the clinical training that would have led to a career in medicine. Avi went on to a number of endeavors, including hospital volunteer work, consulting in various disciplines and teaching. His work took him to faraway places, including Canada, Europe and the Middle East. Later in life, Avi lived in Brooklyn, New York, and for the past 15 years he was a resident of Philadelphia.

Avi particularly loved teaching. He enjoyed challenging young minds to engage with history and current events. Prior to the Covid19 pandemic, Avi was an active substitute teacher in the greater Philadelphia area.

Avi has no surviving family, but he does have a devoted group of friends who grieve his loss. We will miss his wide-ranging intellect, his perceptive insights and his sly sense of humor.

Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside Services Wednesday 2 PM Precisely at Montefiore Cemetery (sec. O), Jenkintown, PA.
