In 1970 he retired from world competition to teach bridge locally and raise his children in suburban Philadelphia. Arthur was an avid reader of fiction, biography and historical non-fiction; listener of music in genres varying from classical, jazz and classic rock. He told many friends that during the 1960's he was so focused on competitive bridge that he was unaware of many contemporary social, political, national and international happenings. He discovered the talent of Bob Dylan in the1980's and he hungrily devoured Dylan's full catalog and others well after their legend establishment. He channeled the need to compete into playing handball regularly well into his 80's. He loved nature, and walked regularly with his adopted dogs and rode his bicycle at local national parks. After retirement Arthur volunteered for many years at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
