ARLENE HOROWITZ

HOROWITZ
ARLENE M. (Fratkin)

78 of Wynnewood, Beloved wife, mother, sister, cousin, Bubbie, friend, passed away at peace on the evening of May 3, 2020 due to complications of COVID-19. She fought a nearly lifelong battle with T1 Diabetes coupled later in life with heart disease and other health challenges.
Described by her brother as a rising phoenix, she was not defined by her illnesses, rather we will remember her for her humor and strength.
An animal lover since birth, her childhood summers were fondly spent at Pinemere Camp where she went on to become a counselor with keen archery skills. As a student and later an educator, she remained active as an alum of Overbrook HS Class of January 1959. Earning her degree in elementary education at Penn State in 1962, she was a founding member of the campus chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. She built a career in the arts, education and administration.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Ralph Fratkin and Mildred Fratkin (Levin). She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Michael, and their children David Horowitz and Julie Horowitz-Jackson (Donald); siblings Susan Fratkin Sherman, Elliot Fratkin (Marty Nathan), and Jake Fratkin (Dominique); 3 nieces and 4 nephews, 5 grand nieces and a grand nephew.
Perhaps Arlene's greatest joy was being Bubbie to her special guy who inherited her love of archery, birds, and butterflies.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to JDRF or The American Heart Associaton.
