ANNETTE (nee Sumsky), Passed away peacefully July 30, 2011 after a valiant battle with cancer. Annette is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Sidney, her son Michael his wife Marjorie and granddaughter Emily of Longmeadow, MA, her daughter Sharon Robinson Taylor, of Langhorne, PA, her brother Gilbert his wife Rita and son Craig of Bucks County, PA and brother Herbert of Philadelphia, Pa. Annette was first born generation of Eastern European immigrant parents Mary and Samuel Sumsky. She graduated from West Philadelphia H.S. in 1949, attended Temple University and received an Associate's Degree from Penn State 'Ogontz'. She continued her education graduating as an octogenarian in 2011 from Penn State University with a BA Degree with honors. She was also inducted into the Zeta Beta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. Annette and her husband were life long congregants of Congregation Shaare Shamayim in Northeast Philadelphia where she served numerous times as its Sisterhood President and was instrumental in developing their first Judaica Shop. She also chaired a special project creating an intricate needlework traditional wedding canopy (Chuppa), dedicated by a ceremony culminating in 30 couples renewing their wedding vows including Annette and Sid. Annette has had a life long personal struggle with her health. Tragedy first struck at the young age of five when she was diagnosed with Polio, and spent a year in the children's ward at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. It was at this young and tender age, facing a crippling disease, that Annette first began her fight, which she would subsequently continue her entire life. She battled breast cancer in the early 80's and triumphantly survived. Annette had a passion for travel and the world. She and Sid 'helicoptered' to an Alaskan glacier, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Pyramids of Egypt and the bazaars of old Jerusalem; The Louvre in Paris, the ancient Roman Forum, even sampled octopus in Athens. (She didn't really know it was octopus at the time). Annette was equally passionate with family and friends. She was their cement and support. The void she has left will not soon be closed. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Regency Tower Manor Building on 1001 Easton Rd. Monday following interment and Tuesday 3 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, all donations in honor of Annette's life may be made to Abington Hospice at Warminster 225 Newtown Road, Warminster, PA 18974.
