Annette Goldah Flisser

Annette Flisser, 93, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2024. She was the daughter of Morris & Celia Coopersmith (nee Brecher), who reached New York City from Podhajce and Lizhensk, Poland, in 1920.

Pre-deceased by her husband Marvin Flisser, who held a U.S. Army role at the Nuremburg Trials, Annette is survived by sons Robert and Daniel, daughter Grace (Stephen Jones), grandson Jeremy Picker, and sister, Barbara Simon.

Annette earned a bachelor’s degree in History at New York University. With a lifetime interest in Jewish culture and in elementary education, she embarked on a career teaching pre-school children at synagogues in Westchester County, NY.

Annette was a lover of song, art, theater, gardening, cooking, literature, cats, and travel. An expert at needlepoint, Annette’s weavings contributed to the parochet (curtain) covering the Torah ark at Temple Israel Center, White Plains, NY. Other creations were exhibited in various cultural and social venues.

A lifetime member of Hadassah, where Annette presented workshops on traditional Jewish texts and major figures, visits to Israel held great importance to Annette. She thrived on the traditions of Jewish holidays, and was the first woman to read the weekly Torah parashah, for her synagogue.

Annette was fluent in Hebrew, French, Yiddish, and dabbled in Spanish. From biographies written by Walter Isaacson, through international folklore and beyond, reading was her passion. This extended to week-long completion of the Sunday NY Times.  Crossword, included.

Our mother’s generosity and love toward each new generation of family will be her lasting legacy.

Contributions in Annette's memory may be made to Temple Israel Center in White Plains, NY where she was a member for over 50 years. Temple Israel Center 280 Old Mamaroneck Rd. White Plains, NY 10605
