ANITA, 96, of Rydal PA, passed away on January 23, 2016 at Abington Hospice at Warminster, after a brief stay. Anita was married for 45 years to the late Jack Lipson, who predeceased her in 1985. Born in Phila., PA on January 30, 1920, Anita was the daughter of Gertrude Kushner and Nathan Binik. Anita is survived by three children: Esther, wife of Dr. Bernard Sobel, Berwyn; Dena, wife of Victor Hammel, Wyomissing, PA; and Mark, husband of Ellen Arnow Lipson, Pacific Palisades, CA. Seven grandchildren: Audrey Sobel, wife of Jeremy Pressman, West Hartford, CT; Melissa Hammel, wife of Michael Burton, Bridgehampton, NY; Alison Sobel-Read, wife of Kevin Sobel-Read, Newcastle, AU; Jed Hammel, husband of Jessica Hafetz Hammel, Haverford, PA; Caren Lipson Sallada, wife of John Sallada, Larchmont, NY; Jamie Hammel, husband of Elizabeth Felleman Hammel, Brooklyn Heights, NY; Matthew Arnow Lipson, husband of Kari Tejerian Lipson, Pacific Palisades, CA. Fifteen great grandchildren: Noah, Zachary, Ari, Amelia, Rye, Nolan, Tessa, Charlie, Brody, Jordan, Ford, Oliver, Josie, Jack and Beau. Anita was predeceased by her brothers Manuel and Hersh.
Anita was a long time member of Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, Elkins Park, PA. She found great satis-faction and enrichment for many years while volunteering at the museum there, and in serving on various committees. Anita lived a vital and independent life until just before her death. Her last years were enriched by dear friends made at Rydal Park. Anita loved her family and cherished family gatherings. She enjoyed travelling the world, classical music, current events, reading and knitting. She fashioned every imaginable wool garment and accessory for her loved ones. She was a lifelong attendee of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a volunteer coordinator, along with her husband Jack, in organizing Elderhostel trips through Allens Lane Art Center. Anita was also a long time member of the Brandeis book club.
Anita's family is truly indebted to so many caring professionals and dear friends. Drs. Martin Trichtinger and Ned Weiss, the compassionate staff and volunteers at Abington Hospice at Warminster, her KI family, the Rydal Park community and her large circle of friends and dinner companions; Rabbi Lance Sussman and Cantor Amy Levy of KI, who enriched her spiritual life; and Rita Poley, museum curator, and fellow volunteers of the KI museum.
Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Thursday, 10 A.M. precisely, at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, 8339 Old York Road, Elkins Park. Int. Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mazon, The Friendship Fund at Rydal Park Retirement Community, or The Museum at Keneseth Israel Synagogue, Elkins Park PA.
