In Loving Memory of Andrey Shumylo 

Andrey Mykhailovych Shumylo was born on August 28, 1983, in Lviv, Ukraine. He was the eldest of two sons born to Mykhailo and Lyubov Shumylo. Andrey had a happy childhood. He spent much of his time in the countryside with his grandparents, Illia and Stefaniia Shumylo, alongside his cousins. From an early age, he attended church, studied in Sunday school, sang in children’s and youth choirs, and was active in the youth ministry at the Lviv Central Baptist Church. In May 2000, the family moved to the United States, settling in Philadelphia. Andrey was 16 years old at the time. 

In 2004, he enrolled at the Lincoln Technical Institute of Technology, from which he successfully graduated. Over the following years, he worked at Ferreti Motors and Sussman Honda Dealership. In 2010, together with his brothers, Andrey launched "Shum’s Auto Repair," starting in a small rented garage. Later, they moved to a location on Rhawn Street, where they renovated and remodeled the premises. Andrey was dedicated to continuous learning. He was a member of Shop Fix Academy and attended various meetings and seminars.

 On June 6, 2010, Andriy was baptized upon his profession of faith and became a member of the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church of Philadelphia. He played an active role in renovating the Sunday school, worked on improving the church's sound system, and served as a sound technician. On October 28, 2012, he married Marta Vasylkiv, whom he had known since childhood and with whom he had served in the church. Together they had three sons: Elijah, Noah, and Adam. 

On January 18, 2018, Andrey received a serious diagnosis. Doctors predicted he would not live to see the birth of the third son the couple was expecting. But God had other plans. Andrey underwent numerous rounds of chemotherapy, four complex surgeries, radiation therapy, and many other medical procedures. Right up to the very last moment, his wife Marta—a nurse—was by his side, supporting him both physically and spiritually. Aware of his health condition, Andrey deeply cherished time spent with his family and seized every opportunity to be with them. 

Andrey loved life and his family dearly. He was willing to try any treatment known to medical science and never complained about his fate. Instead, Andrey continued to build his business with his brother Slavik, who was always by his side. During this time, they expanded their business by acquiring a property on Street Road, which they completely renovated to meet modern standards. It was Andrey’s dream to run an honest, highly professional business through which he could serve God and others. 

Andrey was a unique individual—as we all are—with a profound and distinctive inner world. He loved reading a wide range of literature. He frequently read spiritual books and listened to sermons and debates on matters of faith. He held strong views on important issues, which he could support based on the Bible. Andrey valued order, punctuality, and precision in all things. He possessed a keen sense of justice and expected total dedication from others, just as he lived his own life. Andrey donated generously to Ukraine, providing clothing and footwear. For many years, he also supported the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. 

The final eight years and eight months of his life were a profound act of God's grace toward Andrey and his family. Many believers in America and Ukraine prayed for him. Andrey was aware of this and deeply grateful to both God and every person praying. God led him through a difficult path of suffering and trials, preparing him for the moment they would meet. 

On September 18, 2026, Andrey Shumylo’s heart ceased to beat and he departed to be with the Lord. Andrey left behind his wife Marta, with whom he had shared fourteen years of marriage; his sons Elijah (12), Noah (10), and Adam (8); his father Mykhailo and mother Lyubov; his younger brother Slavik, along with Slavik’s wife Marina and son Maksym; the Shumylo and Vasylkiv families; and many other close and extended relatives, friends, and acquaintances in Ukraine and America who knew and loved him. Until we meet again, dear Andrey! We will miss you dearly.
