Amy Kitzen, a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, award-winning gardener, passionate dog owner, devoted, generous friend to many, and beloved sister and aunt, died on June 6, 2024.
Amy loved to spend time with friends and family. She had a knack for drawing people together wherever she went, including the places she worked and the Fairmount neighborhood where she lived for more than thirty years. Amy had a beautiful art collection, some works of which were created by friends, others acquired from the famed Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show, which she had planned to attend this year. Amy belonged to the Philadelphia Horticultural Society and her spectacular backyard container garden won several awards. She loved to travel and play tennis. Amy participated in many Philadelphia-area runs and bike rides to raise money for charitable causes. She completed the New York City Marathon twice.
She is survived by brother Jan Kitzen (Doris Abelson), sister Susan Kitzen (Dan Segal), nephews Jesse Kitzen-Abelson, Matthew Kitzen-Abelson (Ritnie Carnizzah), Ethan Oberman (Gabby), niece Lily Oberman (Devon), her wide circle of cherished friends and, of course, her adored Cairn Terrier, Truckee.
