Alvin Goldberg

Alvin Goldberg, a venerable educator and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born on May 11, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alvin’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication, selflessness, and a steadfast commitment to enriching the lives of others.

A man of profound intellect and boundless generosity, Alvin devoted over 35 years to the field of chemistry education, leaving an indelible mark on countless students at Pennsbury High School as well as at Temple University and Trenton State College. His career was distinguished by a genuine passion for teaching and an extraordinary ability to illuminate the complexities of science with clarity and warmth. Alvin’s influence extended beyond the classroom; he was known for his wonderful sense of humor and was ceaselessly generous with both his time and knowledge. To all who knew him, he was a guiding light, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and anyone in need.

Alvin’s academic accomplishments were equally impressive. He earned master’s degrees from Temple University and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Natural Sciences, underscoring his lifelong commitment to learning and intellectual growth. Yet, what truly defined him was not only his scholarly achievements but the quiet impact he had on the lives around him. Guided by an unwavering moral compass, Alvin measured success not by material wealth but by the kindness he extended and the positive influence he fostered. In every respect, he was the very embodiment of a Mensch.

His personal passions revealed a man devoted to service in all facets of life. Alvin was an expert at repairing almost anything for his neighbors and family, from fixing old bicycles destined for donation to others, to spending cherished summers in Margate, New Jersey, with his beloved family. His compassion and creativity knew no bounds.

His proudest accomplishments were many: from his early days as an Eagle Scout and Scout Camp Director, to leading Congregation Beth El in Levittown-Yardley, Pennsylvania as past president, to establishing Galilee Village Senior Housing in Levittown, a testament to his commitment to social welfare. Alvin also served as past president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association of Bucks County and as the College Certification Representative for the National Education Association, roles in which he tirelessly advocated for educators and students alike.

Alvin is survived by his devoted wife, Myrna Goldberg; his children Dr. Jordan Goldberg and wife Judy, Benjamin Goldberg and wife Beth, Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg and wife Randi, and Karen Hoffman and husband Jon; and his cherished grandchildren Nathan Goldberg and wife Cait, Marissa Goldberg and wife Kathleen, Eli Goldberg, Michelle Goldberg, Marc Goldberg, Phillip Goldberg, Stephen Hoffman (fiancé Sarah), Jake Hoffman, and Michael Hoffman. Together, they carry forward his legacy of integrity, generosity, and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Morris Goldberg; his brother Bernard Goldberg; and his sisters Gloria Eiseman and Alice Goldberg.
