Alix Shirley Maier

Alix Shirley Maier, 81, of Newtown, PA, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. Alix was a profoundly dedicated wife, mother, sister, cousin, grandmother and friend who lived and loved life to the fullest. Born in England and raised in Philadelphia and Levittown, PA, Alix was the first of Rayner and Abraham (Abe to everyone) Pollin’s two children. Alix grew up loving books, art, animals and children. Alix went to the University of Pittsburgh after attending Pennsbury High School in Yardley, PA. After college she pursued her love of painting, crafts, and other arts.

She met Richard (Dick) Maier when they worked together in printing. They were married and settled in Feasterville, PA. They had two children, Sarah (Stephanie) and Dovid (Brendan). Their house was filled with books, dogs and cats that they rescued, and friends. Alix started a library and became a librarian at the synagogue she attended. After many years of living in Feasterville, PA, they retired to Newtown, PA. Alix was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, who died in 2018. Alix is survived by her daughter Sarah and her wife Jaime, her son Dovid and his wife Aliyah, her sister Janice and her brother-in-law Pirkka, and her much loved grandchildren Noach, Nosson, Sima, Eliana, Aaron, and Miri.

Alix had many friends, her high school friends; Joy and Gloria, and her close friends Carol, Candy, and Rich and Bea. We thank them for their phone calls and their visits which meant so very much to Alix.

Our hearts are broken and no words can do justice to the fun and joy she brought to our lives. We are grateful to the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who have been by her side during this challenging time. We especially want to thank her three wonderful caregivers; Abby, Tatiana, and Sherrina who cared for with such love and kindness.

If you would like to celebrate Alix today we invite you to watch a British murder mystery (the more murders, the better!), adopt a dog or a cat, read a good book, eat some chocolate, teach something to someone or call a friend.
