COL. ALFRED JULIAN DANN, of Doylestown, Pennsyl-vania, former Deputy Commander of the 358th Civil Affairs Brigade, Norristown, died on August 30, 2013, he was 97. He was the husband of the late Irmgard Schwind Dann. Son of Max Dann and Freda Amsterdam Dann, Alfred Julian Dann was born on April 12, 1916 in Merion, Pennsylvania. His youth was spent in Atlantic City, NJ and he was a graduate of Atlantic City High School. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Muriel Cantagallo and Maxine Cantor.
Alfred J. Dann attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a BS in Economics in 1938. He was commissioned in the Quartermaster in 1940 and served in During WWII in the following battles and campaigns: Normandy (Omaha Beach), Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes. As a part of the Marshall Plan, he was appointed as a provincial Military Government Officer of Amburg and Sulzbach-Rosenberg Germany. While in Germany he married Irmgard Schwind in 1951. They were married for 44 years until her death in 1996.
In the Reserve component COL. Dann served as Deputy Commander of the 358th Civil Affairs Brigade. He was a graduate of the Civil Affairs School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He retired with 30 years of service in 1970.
In the civilian sector, Mr. Dann was employed by RCA from 1951-1963. From 1964-1980 served as a senior contract negotiator for Defense Logistics Department, in Philadelphia, PA.
COL. Dann is survived by his daughters COL. Karen Dann McCurdy (Alec) and Andrea Dann Urban (William), grandchildren Christina, Brett, Nicole, Nicholas and James, and two great-grandchildren Paige and Dexter. He is also survived by a niece Joan Whoolery and nephew Robert Cantor. He was a resident of Oreland, Pennsylvania for almost 60 years. He was an active swimmer, fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, and stock market enthusiast. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services, Wednesday 12:00 Noon precisely at Wayside Chapel at Whitemarsh Mem. Park, 1169 Limekiln Pk, Ambler. Int. immediately following.
