Dr. Albert N. Brest, 97 of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 21, 2026. Husband of Arlene S. Brest (nee Goldberg) and the late Suzanne (nee Gaber). Father of Norman (Carol) Brest and Sheryl (Ron) Kushner. Grandfather of Jamie (Michael) and Michael (Hannah); great-grandfather of Madelyn Rose. Dr. Brest graduated from Temple Medical School in 1953 and completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease in 1959. Later on, he became the first full time director of the Division of Cardiology at Jefferson. He established the cardiac care unit, the sections of echocardiography and electrophysiology but he was most proud of establishing formalized fellowship training in cardiovascular disease. He performed clinical research and was extensively published. He authored over 300 papers and 40 books several of which were translated into other languages. Practicing and teaching for over 50 years allowed him to care for thousands of patients and to inspire almost as many medical students, residents and fellows.
Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors at 11:30 am precisely. Interment at King David Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed at the Briar House, 8302 Old York Road, Elkins Park following burial at 2:30 pm as well as from 5 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday 2/26 and Thursday 2/27. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Jefferson Cardiology Fellowship Program or to the Tamhui Fund at Congregation Adath Jeshurun which provides food for those in need.
