Alan J. Candell, Esq.

Alan J. Candell, Esq., passed away on September 25, 2023, just shy of his 76th birthday after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was surrounded by his loving family: his wife Theresa (née DiGiacomo), son Bailey, daughter Tess, her husband Zach Lemis, brother-in-law Joe DiGiacomo and his husband Gregg (née Solimine).

Alan was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Benjamin and Beatrice (née Gross).  The family of three moved to Philadelphia where Alan grew up and attended Cheltenham High School. He then studied business at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently received his JD from Temple Law School.

Alan was a real-estate investor and founder of a mortgage company.  Beyond the financing he provided for real-estate projects, he was an investor in a variety of local minority/immigrant-owned businesses.  Alan wanted clients to succeed financially and personally.  Clients became friends and family.  His passing on Yom Kippur is symbolic to how he lived his life and the impact he had on others. His lifelong passions included travel and art.

The family will host an open house honoring Alan’s memory Friday, September 29, from 2-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dr. Babar Bashir’s Cancer Research at Jefferson Hospital, 925 Chestnut Street, Suite 320A, Philadelphia, Pa 19107.
