Ada Hyams

Ada Ciplet Hyams, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Philadelphia, PA, and Atlantic City, NJ, passed away on November 11, 2023. She is survived by her loving sons, David (Sara) and Warren (Liz); her dear sister, Frema Eisenberg; and her devoted grandchildren, Hannah, Sara, Jack, and Ilise. Preceded in death by her adoring husband, Irving; her dear sister, Esther Perkins; and her cherished parents, Nathan and Sara Ciplet.

Ada spent her ninety-eight years bringing joy and laughter to the people around her. A proud Philadelphian, she grew up on the 400 block of Bainbridge Street and graduated from Girls’ High in 1941 — she was able to quote at great length the Shakespeare she learned there well into her nineties. She graduated from Antioch College in 1976 and was a teacher in the Philadelphia School District. She married Irving in 1951, and they loved spending summers in Atlantic City with their sons and her parents, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Ada loved her family to no end and made countless photo albums documenting every milestone. Her four grandchildren all loved their Safta.

Ada marched to the beat of her own drum and was the life of the party everywhere she went. She was an avid athlete, swimming, golfing, and playing tennis well into her eighties. She was always singing, dancing, and laughing her way through life, and we will remember her as an incredibly vibrant person.

As Ada always signed her letters to her family (in perfect calligraphy): “All my love, good luck.” She loved her life and the people around her with all her heart.

Family and friends are invited to graveside services at Montefiore Cemetery (Section 7, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, PA) on Wednesday, November 15 at 1:00 pm.  The family will return to the residence of Warren and Liz Hyams for Shiva, which will continue on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, November 15 and November 16.  The family will receive guests at 6:30 pm with services at 7:00 pm both nights.
